PROJECT SCOPE

Polish design has been developing dynamically for years and is gaining recognition in international markets, yet for a long time there was no comprehensive, data-based study showing its real scale, economic potential, and role in the development of creative industries. Knowledge about Polish design was fragmented – it existed mainly in industry circles, individual publications, or institutional projects – so it was difficult to present its significance in a broader economic, business, and social context.

The aim of the project carried out for the Institute of Creative Industries was to create a publication that would comprehensively describe the condition and potential of Polish design – both as a field of creative activity and as an important sector of the creative economy. The report was intended to organize knowledge about the industry, identify the most important trends, and show how design influences the development of companies, institutions, and products created in Poland. At the same time, its task was to strengthen public debate on the role of design in building economic competitiveness and promoting Polish culture and innovation.

The strategy was based on combining data analysis, expert knowledge, and storytelling, which makes it possible to translate complex economic and cultural phenomena into a clear and engaging narrative. The key was not only to collect and interpret data concerning the design sector, but also to show them in a broader context – as part of the ecosystem of creative industries and the modern economy.

The scope of the project included developing the report's research concept, analyzing available data and materials concerning the design sector, and identifying the most important trends and challenges facing the industry. On this basis, we prepared the publication “Designing Polish Design” (as well as its English translation), which combines market analysis with expert commentary, project examples, and reflection on the role of design in the development of the contemporary economy.

PROJECT SCOPE

We began the project by analyzing the available data and materials concerning the design sector in Poland – including institutional studies, industry reports, and publications on the creative industries. The goal was to build as complete a picture as possible of the Polish design ecosystem: its scale, structure, and relationships with business, culture, and innovation. On this basis, we developed the report structure and the key areas of analysis that helped organize knowledge about the industry.

The next step was an in-depth analysis of data and source materials, including information on the design market, its economic significance, how designers and design studios operate, and the role of design in the processes of creating products and services.

An important part of the project was also incorporating the perspectives of industry experts and practitioners: designers, representatives of cultural institutions, and the creative industries community. As a result, the report combines data analysis with expert commentary and examples of projects and practices showing the many faces of contemporary Polish design.

Based on the collected materials, we developed the comprehensive narrative of the report “Designing Polish Design”. A key element was transforming complex analyses into a clear and engaging publication that can be understood by both the design community and representatives of business, public administration, and the media.

The final stage of the work was editorial development and preparing the report for publication – so that it would serve not only as a source of knowledge about the design sector in Poland, but also as a tool supporting discussion about the role of design in the development of the creative industries and in building the competitiveness of the Polish economy.

of communication

  • The key result of the project was the estimated value of the Polish design sector at PLN 4.3–6.5 billion, which made it possible to show, for the first time in such a clear way, its real economic significance and development potential.

  • The publication met with strong interest from the design community – within the first 30 days after its release, the report was downloaded more than 1,000 times, which is a very high result for a specialist publication on a niche topic.

  • The report was also presented during Łódź Design Festival 2025, where its premiere gathered more than 100 participants, becoming an important point in the event program and an impetus for further discussion about the future of Polish design.

  • In the period from July to September 2024, publications dedicated to reports reached 13.5 million recipients.

  • Compared to the effects of the “Happy Home” campaign in the corresponding period of 2023, we noted a 105% increase in mentions of the reports.

  • As a result, the brand Otodom increased its Share of Voice to 48% (an increase of 5 percentage points year on year).

  • Recruitment campaigns for individual departments

  • Image campaigns (e.g., a campaign about values, a campaign promoting new career tabs, a campaign about EVP)

  • Daily communication, focused on topics aligned with EB strategy guidelines
